Trudeau’s Canada: A liberal nirvana?

Young, good-looking and liberal – the antithesis to Trump – Justin Trudeau emerged as a darling of the chattering classes the world over. Under his leadership, Canada has legalised cannabis, championed equality and diversity and upheld a model of multiculturalism. But is Trudeau more still than substance? And is Canada as liberal as it first appears? Crackdowns on free speech, arms deals with Saudi Arabia and an ongoing marginalisation of First Nations peoples might suggest otherwise. Filmed at the Battle of Ideas 2017, the speakers are Dr Ashley Frawley, Professor Alan Hallsworth and Rachael Revesz. The chair is Dr Kevin Yuill.
