Whether or not Martin Luther actually nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg on 31 October 1517, as a disputed tradition claims, he certainly started a process that would change Europe and the world. 500 years on, this panel explores Luther’s life, ideas and legacy. Luther brought religion to the masses: translating the Bible into the vernacular and preaching from the pulpit while his doctrine of sola fide (by faith alone) was liberatory.
