UK RIP?

When the SNP won the Scottish elections and pledged to hold a referendum on an independent Scotland, doubt was cast on the future of the UK. Polls suggest most Scots are against independence, and the SNP victory was about disillusionment with other parties. Those in favour of maintaining the Union however, struggle to make a positive case for it, even speakers in this Battle of Ideas ‘in conversation’ struggle to make one. What does this say about the meaning of Britishness today and for the future? Might we indeed be ‘sleepwalking into the break-up of the Union’? Speakers include: Craig Fairnington, Joyce McMillan, Max Wind-Cowie, Chair: Justine Brian.
