Here you will find a complete list of all of the specific volunteering opportunities available at WORLDwrite, broken down into categories by project. From admin to film editing to journalism, all of these opportunities are needed to make WORLDwrite a success. Simply click on the opportunity that takes your fancy to find out more about what you could be doing. And remember, if nothing grabs you but you still want to be a part of the WORLDwrite team, just go back to the Become a Volunteer page and find out how to attend one of our introductory evenings so that you can meet the team, find out more and consider what you would like to do.

WORLDbytes Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to join a team committed to developing an alternative monthly line up of programmes for the charity's news channel WORLDbytes. The channel screens programmes filmed by young volunteer crews on our 'train and shoot' days and beyond. Programmes examine the hot issues, investigate alternative views, summarise opinions and utilise every genre from vox pops to spoofs. The channel does not cover the usual stories or existing preoccupations, but seeks out local and global subjects which challenge prevailing assumptions, advance new knowledge and critique contemporary fads. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone and as one of our WORLDbytes volunteers commented "it's a platform for ideas and the more you put in, the more you get out of it."

London Behind the Scenes Opportunities

We need volunteers aged 16 to 25 with ambition to work on a special project entitled London Behind the Scenes. This involves creating an alternative filmed guide to London for a DVD we're calling 'Hidden London' in the run up to the Olympics. No skills are needed and newcomers to London and the UK are especially welcome. This is no ordinary guide, it will predominantly consist of short documentary style films and will uncover the good, the great, the bad and the ugly, and what is not usually covered by the tourism industry. Designed from scratch by volunteers with carefully scrutinised facts and places, the films produced will uncover and tell many a hidden story and promote new ideas in the process. Volunteers are already working on the story of the East End suffragettes – the women who won the vote, a series called 'Made by migrants' celebrating migration to the UK and more besides. New ideas for this project are always welcome.

Global Appeals Opportunities

WORLDwrite's Global Appeals project always needs new and imaginative ways to raise money. WORLDwrite is not an "aid" outfit but does believe we should put our money where our mouth is whenever we can, and support our partners in the developing world when we are able to. (See What Wofa Wants) We should never pretend this will change the world but it's the least we can do. The charity is raising funds for villages, families and a shanty town in Ghana which urgently need all the resources they can get. The following opportunities are all essential to make our appeals successful.

  1. Mini-marathon organiser
  2. 5k Mini-marathon runners or walkers
  3. Appeals Filmmaker
  4. Corporate Appeals Assistant
  5. Friends Scheme Assistant
  6. Fundraisers for Ghanaian Village
  7. Party Organiser
  8. Raffle Coordinator

Film Facility Opportunities

WORLDwrite's volunteer centre in east London is home to an award-winning film facility and online news channel WORLDbytes. The charity develops all sorts of news programmes, filmed reports and short documentaries to get its message across that only the best will do for all. The charity provides free film training for young volunteers aged 16-25 years who would like to get involved on what are known as 'Train & Shoot' days. The following opportunities will ensure the smooth running of the film and news channel facility and assist young volunteers learning to shoot alternative programmes.

  1. Assistant Sound Engineers
  2. Film Avid Editors or Assistants
  3. Film Editing Tutors
  4. Film Festival Coordinator
  5. Film Promoters
  6. Film Reviewers
