Comedy of Terror

Dr. Philip Hammond argues that comedy has provided greater insights on the nature of terrorism than straight documentaries and drama. Two of the examples he refers to are the British comedies, Four Lions and In The Loop. He compellingly argues that the absurdity, political emptiness and narcissism expressed by the characters in these films captures more accurately the nature of both suicide bombers and the war on terror. Filmed at the Screens of Terror conference, illustrative clips from the films referred to are included in this report.
