Background

Diaries

In 1999 and 2000 WORLDwrite arranged exchange visits to India. Participants investigated, child labour, mega projects, the Narmada dam, GM food and much more besides.

In India's Narmada valley, hundreds of villagers walked for hours to meet and tell WORLDwrite exchangees their problems, much to the amazement of the group. Their lives had been wrecked by the creation of a conservation sanctuary. In 2001 WORLDwrite assistant Director Kirk Leech returned to India and spent 3 months in the Narmada valley investigating and documenting the problems facing these villagers who call themselves 'tribals'. WORLDwrite is determined to tell their story and win them support.

If you would like to take part in a future exchange visit to India or help out, browse through this section of the site and contact the WORLDwrite centre.
