Challenging A Hidden Agenda
Reproductive Health or Population Control?
A NEW LANGUAGE
Hardly anyone these days advocates population control. Terms like 'population
problem' and 'population programmes' are unfashionable. Even ardent neo-Malthusians
have adopted the vocabulary of 'reproductive health', 'maternal health'
and 'gender equity'. Conferences like Cairo 1994 and the Hague 1999, which
focus on fertility control, distance themselves from the language of demography.

do Indian Farmers Think?
In July 1999
WORLDwrite exchange participants will be travelling to India to explore
many of the issues at the heart of the development debate in the Indian-Subcontinent.
In Delhi, Bombay and Calcutta we will meet NGOšs involved in the issue
of Child Labour and Street Children. In the Punjab we will meet Farmers,
Scientists and NGOšs concerned with the GM Food Debate. Interested? Do
you want to contribute to the debates and research, meet us in India,
help out with reporting back?

The Brazilians are coming!
This is the Brazilian
Amazon Exchange. This unique project aims to provide an opportunity for
young people to discover the facts surrounding the controversial subject
of development in the Amazon and to give young Brazilians a voice. These
pages contain in depth background material, debates and itineraries.
A Big Welcome
to Brazilian Guests-Why not join in their Itinerary in the UK or help
out! This July a group of young people from Tucurui and the Carajas area
of Brazil are visiting the UK. WORLDwrite are hosting their visit which
will involve considerable discussion on development issues and give young
Brazilians a chance to have their say for a change.

The Ghana exchange
was set up to challenge stereotypes of Africa and Africans and to build
new Internet links with Ghana in West Africa. The programme is ongoing and
open to more young people who would like to gain a first hand experience
of life in West Africa and to support their Ghanaian peers. These pages
